This house has previously been extended and modernised but in the process it has lost its identity. In key areas it feels cramped and gloomy and it lacks storage space.

Plans for a large south-facing extension had been rejected on Appeal. Although plans for a north-facing extension had subsequently been accepted, the clients were disappointed and frustrated that they could not achieve what they really wanted.

A thorough review of the clients’ needs, aspirations and tastes revealed the way forward. Working within the constraints of the planning consent, and with architects Saunders Boston, alterations to external windows and doors have been agreed. Internally, plans to introduce bold architectural features will unify the space to form a stunning family home.

The changes will create a double-height entrance hall with feature staircase, spacious halls and landing, a generous south-facing kitchen/breakfast room with doors to a new terrace and garden beyond, a large new family bathroom, separate dining, living and music rooms with subtle lighting scheme, and acres of in-built storage.
