The L-shaped sitting room in this 1960s architect-designed house had fabulous views and lots of light, but lacked a focal point. The clients were academics with teenage children; as a family they had contrasting ideas on how the space should be used.
A roomy self-contained study was created with storage and space for 4 PCs; this more cluttered area can be closed off from the smart main living space, but still benefits from huge picture windows and lots of light. The sitting room has a new corner fireplace, storage for books and games and a separate reading area with views over the garden and golf course.
"It works brilliantly well. At weekends we sit round the fire chatting ... it has completely transformed my life."
