Interior Design Project - Edwardian Entrance Hall

The Brief: We were asked to create a real wow factor for the entrance hall in this detached period house near Cambridge; something tasteful and elegant that had a quirky and dramatic edge.

Work Completed: This entrance hall has a magnificent period staircase so we were looking to highlight and emphasise it with a scheme that is elegant and classic, in keeping with the country origins of the house (on the outskirts of Cambridge), and yet we also wanted a slightly contemporary twist. We used the full range of shades of Portland Stone by Little & Greene on ceiling, walls and woodwork to provide a calm backdrop for a contemporary art collection, with pewter metallic peacock wallpaper by Cole & Son on the lower walls. This room was designed to be a statement on its own but also to work well and connect with the rest of the house. The original staircase was given a make-over with dramatic black handrail. A generously proportioned marble console table by William Yeoward draws the eye past the staircase and into the room; this beautiful table with it's turned legs in weathered oak provides a dramatic centrepiece. Textured silk curtains and a silk Ikat rug create a luxurious welcome.
